[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] On the 6th, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases was recorded at 478. After maintaining the 500s for five consecutive days until the past weekend, the number slightly decreased to the high 400s from the previous day due to the weekend effect.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on this day, there were 478 new domestic COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 106,230. Regarding the infection routes, 460 cases were locally transmitted, and 18 were imported cases.
By region, the Seoul metropolitan area reported 145 cases in Seoul, 100 in Gyeonggi, and 27 in Incheon, totaling 272 confirmed cases. Rather, the number of confirmed cases increased evenly in non-metropolitan areas, raising the proportion of cases outside the metropolitan area. Busan reported 34 cases, still a high number, followed by Jeonbuk with 29, Gyeongbuk 25, Daejeon 22, Daegu 17, Gangwon and Jeonnam each 15, Chungbuk 10, Gyeongnam 7, Gwangju 6, and Ulsan and Chungnam each 4. No additional cases were reported in Sejong and Jeju.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 4 from the previous day, reaching 1,752. The number of critically ill patients increased by 15 to 112. The number of patients who were declared recovered and released from isolation increased by 463 to 97,363.
On this day, the number of suspected case tests reported was 52,470, and the number of tests conducted at temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area was 37,261. Forty-five confirmed cases were identified at the metropolitan temporary screening clinics.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team reported that as of midnight on this day, 35,970 people received their first dose, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to 999,870. The number of new second-dose vaccinations was 316, with a cumulative total of 27,691. So far, 870,724 people have received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 129,146 have received the Pfizer vaccine.
