[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will disclose detailed cattle traceability information, including farm-specific breeding status, births, deaths, movements, and slaughter records accumulated over several years through the cattle traceability system, starting from the 6th. It is expected that private sectors such as research institutes, universities, and companies will be able to analyze and utilize this data in various ways.
According to the Ministry on the 5th, the government has been implementing the cattle traceability system since December 2008 to manage individual cattle raised on farms and to track and manage livestock products that are slaughtered and distributed. The disclosed information includes big data from the cattle traceability system that has been accumulated over several years and used for policy purposes, now made available for private sector analysis and utilization to promote the development of the livestock industry and related sectors. This includes specific traceability information such as cattle breeding, births, deaths, movements, and slaughter results. Anyone interested in this information can view and download comprehensive status and detailed traceability data through the open system menu at the top of the Livestock Traceability System website.
The cattle traceability information provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs this time is expected to be analyzed and utilized in various ways by private research institutes, universities, livestock consulting, feed, and material companies. By using annual cattle breeding status, numbers of births, deaths, and slaughter, as well as monthly age data, it can be used to predict future breeding numbers for farm consulting or to establish management strategies for related industries.
Additionally, since information by city and county is also disclosed, regional comparative analysis of cattle breeding is possible. Slaughter information including meat quality grades and carcass weight is also made public, which is expected to aid diverse private sector analyses and utilization. The Ministry is preparing the ‘Hanwoo Supply and Demand Prediction Model Competition (April to October)’ in collaboration with the Korea Rural Economic Institute and the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Service, encouraging participation from university students, graduate students, and private researchers to utilize the disclosed cattle traceability information for Hanwoo observation.
