[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Hansol Paper, the largest paper manufacturer in Korea, and Amorepacific, a leading domestic beauty company, have joined hands to develop eco-friendly beauty products.
Hansol Paper announced on the 5th that on the 2nd, it signed a strategic business agreement with Amorepacific at Amorepacific’s headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, attended by Hansol Paper CEO Han Cheol-gyu and Amorepacific CEO Ahn Se-hong, to develop sustainable eco-friendly cosmetic raw materials and packaging products.
Through this agreement, the two companies plan to jointly develop eco-friendly cosmetic raw materials applying Hansol Paper’s cellulose processing technology, and also promote the development of paper packaging materials to reduce plastic use, thereby expanding eco-friendly management.
Cellulose, a polymer material derived from wood, is highly biodegradable and regarded as an eco-friendly new material. It has the characteristic of mixing well with water without precipitating other substances.
Accordingly, the companies explained that using cellulose technology in cosmetic raw materials can not only replace existing chemical ingredients but also improve the quality of cosmetics in terms of stability, spreadability, and moisturizing effects.
The two companies also decided to jointly develop eco-friendly packaging by combining Hansol Paper’s paper material technology with Amorepacific’s packaging expertise. Through this, they plan to develop eco-friendly paper packaging materials that complement the durability and preservation of existing paper packaging while providing high strength and oxygen barrier capabilities, contributing to the spread of plastic-free alternatives.
Prior to this business agreement, the two companies had already collaborated on eco-friendly projects, such as commercializing cosmetic packaging using citrus peel. Through this agreement, they plan to continue close cooperation in developing eco-friendly technologies and sharing information to build a sustainable society.
Hansol Paper CEO Han Cheol-gyu said, “Applying Hansol’s cellulose processing technology to products improves strength, lightness, and dimensional stability at high temperatures,” adding, “Based on non-toxicity and eco-friendliness, it is one of the new materials currently attracting global attention because it can be applied across industries including cosmetics, paints, electronics, polyurethane, and rubber.” He further stated, “Hansol Paper has completed the establishment of a high-performance cellulose production system for the first time in Korea through long-term research on this technology.”
