Gwanghwamun, 5 Major Palaces, Namdaemun Market, Hangang Park, and 17 Popular Spots for Citizens Established as 'Kkachion Hot Places'
Speed 4 Times Faster and Concurrent Users Expanded 2.5 Times Compared to Previous Kkachion
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] High-performance public Wi-Fi ‘Kkachion’ is being widely deployed at 17 representative tourist attractions and parks in Seoul, including Gwanghwamun Square, Sejong-daero Saram Forest Path, Deoksugung Stone Wall Path, the Five Grand Palaces and Jongmyo Shrine, Namdaemun Market, Namsangol Hanok Village, Hangang Park, and Seoul city-operated parks.
On the 5th, Seoul City announced that, in preparation for the busy spring outing season, it has designated 17 popular parks, the Hangang River, and tourist spots as ‘Kkachion Hot Places’ to enable citizens to use public Wi-Fi outdoors with four times faster speed, uninterrupted, safe, and convenient service.
Kkachion Hot Places are locations where the existing public Wi-Fi Kkachion has been replaced and reinforced with a new high-performance Kkachion offering ?4 times faster speed ?2.5 times more simultaneous connections ?expanded usage radius (30m→70m) ?and high-level encryption (WPA3).
Seoul City has released a Kkachion map on the Smart Seoul Map so that citizens can quickly and easily find Kkachion throughout Seoul. By accessing via the Kkachion QR code or URL on mobile, users can immediately check where over 10,000 Kkachion units installed across Seoul are located by region. Translation services in English, Chinese, and Japanese are also provided for foreigners. This information is also available on Seoul City’s foreign language website.
The creation of Kkachion Hot Places mainly covers pedestrian areas (?Gwanghwamun Square ?Sejong-daero Saram Forest Path ?Seoullo 7017 ?Deoksugung Stone Wall Path), tourist attractions (?Five Grand Palaces and Jongmyo Shrine ?Namdaemun Market ?Namsangol Hanok Village), and parks (?Seoul city-operated parks ?Hangang Park).
To use Kkachion, simply turn on the Wi-Fi function on your smartphone at a location where Kkachion is installed and select ‘SEOUL_Secure.’ Once set up for the first time, your device will automatically connect at all places equipped with Kkachion, allowing convenient use.
Meanwhile, Seoul City plans to actively utilize real-time monitoring and analysis of Kkachion usage across the city through the Public Wi-Fi Integrated Management Center, which will open in May, to expand Kkachion and create more hot places in the future.
Lee Won-mok, Director of Smart City Policy, said, “By creating Kkachion Hot Places in walking areas, parks, the Hangang River, and cultural tourist attractions, we will transform various parts of the city into smart and pleasant resting places for citizens. Before expanding Kkachion throughout Seoul, we will prioritize installing indoor Kkachion in welfare and community facilities, and Kkachion Hot Places in parks and tourist facilities, focusing on multi-use facilities and public places visited by many citizens. We will also strive to enhance user convenience and quality by replacing outdated equipment, unifying SSIDs, and providing Kkachion maps.”
