After holding talks with Wang Yi, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, Minister Chung told reporters, "We have agreed to promote President Xi's visit to Korea as early as possible once the COVID-19 situation stabilizes."
Minister Chung explained, "We had in-depth discussions on how to advance the peace process on the Korean Peninsula," adding, "We decided to hold a 2+2 meeting for diplomatic and security consultations between Korea and China at an early date."
He continued, "China supports our government's policy for permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula and complete denuclearization," and stated, "We requested China to play a constructive role in achieving these two goals, and China promised to cooperate as much as possible."
Furthermore, Minister Chung said, "We also exchanged candid opinions on various global issues," and added that they exchanged views on cultural content exchanges between Korea and China, as well as environmental issues such as fine dust.
