Korea-China Foreign Ministers "Working Together for the Korean Peninsula Peace Process"

View original image[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Cho Young-shin, Reporter Park Byung-hee] Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke in unison on the 3rd, urging South Korea and China to work together to advance the peace process on the Korean Peninsula, including North Korea's nuclear issue.
Minister Chung and Minister Wang met on the afternoon of the 3rd at the Haiwei Hotel in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, holding the South Korea-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting for the first time in over four months. In his opening remarks, Minister Wang stated, "Strategic communication between South Korea and China is important," and added, "China will strive for a new development in South Korea-China relations." Minister Wang emphasized that this year is the Year of South Korea-China Cultural Exchange and that next year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, urging joint efforts to develop bilateral relations.
Minister Wang said, "South Korea and China are important countries in the region, strategic cooperative partners, and share similar positions on regional peace and stability," and added, "China will work with South Korea to promote a political resolution process on the Korean Peninsula issue through dialogue."
In response, Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong highly praised that South Korea and China have been smoothly promoting exchanges despite the global economic downturn, serving as a model for Northeast Asia's epidemic prevention.
Minister Chung stated, "South Korea and China share the common goal of complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," and expressed gratitude for the Chinese government's support of related efforts. He further said, "We expect China's active role in the stable management of the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the substantial progress of the peace process on the Korean Peninsula."
