The Ministry of Education announced that on this day, staff members of Seongnam Hyeun School, a special school in Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, and health teachers from elementary, middle, and high schools in the district received COVID-19 vaccinations at the Sujeong-gu Health Center in Seongnam City. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye also visited the health center to observe the vaccination site.
The Sujeong-gu area of Seongnam City completed vaccination preparations at the health center faster than other regions, and after consultations with schools, began the first vaccinations for school staff on this day. Health and special education teachers, support personnel, and special school staff received the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The Ministry of Education plans to conduct the first dose of COVID-19 vaccinations from the 8th to the 28th of this month for health and special education teachers, support personnel, and special school staff at all schools below the high school level.
Teachers who receive the vaccine can apply for paid leave for the time required for vaccination. If adverse reactions such as fever or pain occur the day after vaccination, they can take sick leave without a medical certificate.
Following health and special education teachers, kindergarten and daycare teachers, elementary school teachers for grades 1 to 2, and childcare personnel are scheduled to be vaccinated starting in June.
The Ministry of Education is consulting with quarantine authorities to ensure that the remaining school staff can be vaccinated in early the third quarter.
