Kim Tae-nyeon Pleads, "I Will Reform Hypocrisy... Please Give the Democratic Party Another Chance"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Kim Tae-nyeon, Acting Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, appealed on the 1st regarding the real estate controversy that arose ahead of the April 7 by-elections, saying, "Regardless of the cause, the Democratic Party was lacking," and "We will place the eradication of real estate speculation and the elimination of real estate corruption as the top priority of national policy."
Acting Leader Kim made the statement at the National Assembly in the morning, saying, "Through the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) incident, we painfully realized that reform has not reached the structural roots of everyday corruption that deepen unfairness and inequality," and expressed his position.
He emphasized, "We will reform the double standards attitude," and "As the architect of reform, the Democratic Party will hold itself to stricter and firmer standards by raising the ethics and code of conduct."
He continued, "We will promptly complete the legal and institutional arrangements to eradicate real estate speculation by public officials," and "We will fundamentally prevent the culture where real estate becomes a means of speculation that undermines fairness in our society."
He also stated that real estate policies will be promptly supplemented. Acting Leader Kim said, "The public hopes that the opportunity for homeownership for genuine non-homeowners will become fairer," and "While blocking speculation, we will greatly expand opportunities for genuine non-homeowners to purchase homes. We will quickly prepare measures to supplement policies where necessary."
At the same time, he once again appealed for support for the Democratic Party. He said, "We cannot return to the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye eras. We must not revive the construction speculation forces that aim to raise housing prices due to anger over soaring prices and speculation," and "I earnestly ask once again to give the Democratic Party a chance."
