CJ ENM X KakaoPage, Launch the '5th Mystery, Thriller, and Suspense Novel Contest'
Discovering Genre Novel IPs Expandable into Movies, Dramas, and Webtoons
Winning Works Serialized on KakaoPage, CJ ENM to Promote Adaptations
Manuscript Submission by May 31, Results Announced on August 2
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ ENM and KakaoPage announced on the 1st that they will hold the "5th Mystery, Thriller, and Suspense Novel Contest (hereinafter referred to as the Chumis Novel Contest)."
Since its inception in 2016, the Chumis Novel Contest has been a competition for complex genre novels featuring elements of mystery, thriller, and suspense. Winning entries will sign serialization contracts with KakaoPage and be planned and developed as web novels, with opportunities for webtoon production after review. CJ ENM will consider and promote film and drama adaptations.
Based on recent successes of dramas and films adapted from webtoons and web novels such as "The Uncanny Counter" and "Navillera," the two companies plan to discover novel intellectual properties (IP) that can be expanded into various content forms and talented creators through this contest.
The contest is open to both new and established writers, who can apply via the KakaoPage app. The submission period is from today until May 31, and winners will be announced on August 2. The total prize money amounts to 65 million KRW, with the long-form category awarding 30 million KRW for the grand prize (1 work), 10 million KRW for the gold prize (1 work), and 5 million KRW each for two excellence prizes. In the short-form category, five works will be selected, each receiving a prize of 3 million KRW.
