Ahn Cheol-soo Steps In for Oh Se-hoon, Appeals for Support of Oh in the Heart of Yeouido
"Coming Out to Keep the Promise... Discussed 'Joint Management' with Oh Again"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Ahead of the first TV debate, Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party (co-chair of the joint election campaign committee), and Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, took to the streets to appeal for support on behalf of Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party’s Seoul mayoral candidate. Both criticized the current government’s incompetence and emphasized the need for a change in administration.
On the 29th, Leader Ahn and Floor Leader Joo toured the area around Yeouido Station in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, conducting street campaigns. They shouted “Candidate No. 2 Oh Se-hoon” to the citizens on the street, then climbed onto the campaign vehicle to deliver speeches to the public. Candidate Oh, who is scheduled to participate in a broadcaster’s debate later that afternoon, did not conduct any on-site campaigns for the first time since officially starting his election campaign on the 25th. Regarding this, Leader Ahn explained, “I came out with others even in the absence of the candidate to fill the gap left by Candidate Oh Se-hoon.”
Leader Ahn said, “Some of you here might be wondering, ‘Why is the person who lost the opposition unified primary here?’” and added, “I came for one clear reason: to keep a promise.” He explained, “When I declared my candidacy for Seoul mayor last year, I promised to achieve opposition candidate unification and ensure the opposition’s victory in the Seoul mayoral election.”
He also emphasized, “The words that best describe this administration are hypocrisy and incompetence,” and stressed, “If you want to judge them, you must participate in voting and choose Candidate No. 2 Oh Se-hoon.”
Floor Leader Joo also stressed the need to judge the government. He said, “(The Moon Jae-in administration) has driven Seoul housing prices sky-high and raised official land prices, so in five years, Seoul citizens will have to pay five times more in taxes.” Regarding vaccinations, he claimed, “Our country is the 105th in the world to receive vaccines,” and added, “They could release the remaining vaccines tomorrow and vaccinate everyone at once, but they are doing it slowly because they are afraid of being caught running out of vaccine supplies.”
Before the speeches, a citizen took the microphone. Im Si-hyun, who introduced himself as a third-year university student, climbed onto the campaign vehicle and said, “I am Im Si-hyun, a young person in his 20s with limited historical experience,” and added, “Young people have lost hope due to the unfairness caused by former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk.” He continued, “I believe the current government’s behavior, which has abandoned the people who should be held accountable under the name of deep-rooted evils, deserves to be judged.”

Meanwhile, immediately after the campaign speech, Leader Ahn confirmed a beer meeting with Candidate Oh in a meeting with reporters. He said, “Candidate Oh will speak about the details,” adding, “Before unification, we exchanged opinions about ‘joint management of Seoul City.’ A few days ago, we met and reaffirmed what was discussed then.”
