ABC News "Biden's COVID Response Approval at 72%"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] As the United States received positive evaluations for its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a poll showed that President Joe Biden's approval rating exceeded 70%.
According to a survey conducted by Ipsos on behalf of ABC News from the 26th to the 27th, targeting 517 American voters, President Biden's approval rating for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery reached 72%.
This is a 4 percentage point increase from the 68% approval rating just before the passage of the $1.9 trillion stimulus package, which was part of Biden's COVID-19 response efforts.
Three out of four respondents expressed support for President Biden's acceleration of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Since taking office, President Biden has prioritized COVID-19 response as his top national agenda and focused on vaccine supply. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one-third (35%) of the adult population in the U.S. has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
In his first press conference on the 25th, President Biden announced that by his 100th day in office on the 30th of next month, he plans to have administered 200 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Americans. This doubles his initial pledge to administer 100 million doses by the 100th day.
On the other hand, long-term issues such as the surge in illegal immigration did not receive positive evaluations. ABC News reported that more than half of respondents (57%) opposed President Biden's approach to recent issues including a series of shootings and the increase in illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
