Service Discount for Korean iPhone Users Until March 28, 2022
Discount Also Applied When Purchasing AppleCare+
Part of Voluntary Correction Measures Related to Telecom Carrier Abuse
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] As part of the consent decree (voluntary corrective action) submitted by Apple Korea to the Fair Trade Commission, a 10% discount policy on iPhone repair costs will be implemented for one year starting today.
According to related industries on the 29th, Apple will offer a 10% discount on service prices excluding warranty to Korean iPhone users for one year from today until March 28, 2022. This policy reduces paid repair costs for display and other damages, as well as battery replacements, by about 20,000 to 30,000 KRW compared to before.
During the same period, a 10% discount will also be provided for new purchases of the iPhone hardware warranty program 'AppleCare Plus (+)'. This is available at Apple or Apple authorized service providers.
Customers who purchased iPhone AppleCare+ from September 11, 2019, until the previous day (28th) will also receive a credit equivalent to 10% of the purchase amount. The credit will be delivered to customers in the form of electronic funds transfer, and proof of purchase may be required.
This iPhone repair cost discount policy is included in Apple Korea's voluntary corrective action plan. Apple was investigated by the Fair Trade Commission for alleged 'gapjil' (abuse of power) such as shifting advertising and repair costs to domestic mobile carriers.
On January 27, the Fair Trade Commission finalized a support plan worth a total of 100 billion KRW proposed by Apple, including iPhone repair cost discounts and the establishment of a manufacturing R&D support center. The funds allocated for the iPhone paid repair cost and AppleCare Plus discount policy amount to about 25 billion KRW.
