[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] The average assets of high-ranking judges were calculated to be approximately 3.764 billion KRW. Chief Justice Kim Myeong-su's assets amounted to 1.178 billion KRW, while Constitutional Court Chief Justice Yoo Nam-seok's assets were 3.12 billion KRW.
According to the "2021 Regular Asset Changes of 144 High-Ranking Judges" disclosed by the Supreme Court on the 25th, the average assets of 144 high-ranking judges were 3.76495 billion KRW.
Among them, 59 judges saw their assets increase by more than 100 million KRW compared to the previous year, while 12 judges experienced a decrease of more than 100 million KRW. The average net asset increase, excluding valuation changes, was calculated at 172 million KRW.
Chief Justice Kim's assets were 1.178 billion KRW, down 222 million KRW from the previous year. This was due to his eldest son, who reported assets of 349 million KRW last year, refusing to disclose his assets this year. The increase in salary savings was 13 million KRW, and the increase in financial institution debt was 430 million KRW.
The person with the highest assets was Kang Young-su, Chief Judge of Incheon District Court, who reported 49.897 billion KRW. The valuation method for unlisted stocks changed from face value to actual transaction price, increasing his assets by 40 billion KRW. Following him were Kim Dong-oh, Senior Judge of Uijeongbu District Court, with 23.625 billion KRW, and Yoon Seung-eun, Presiding Judge of Seoul High Court, with 17.522 billion KRW.
The judge with the lowest assets was Cheon Dae-yeop, Senior Presiding Judge of Seoul High Court, with 273 million KRW. Kim Seong-su, Presiding Judge of Suwon High Court, also reported assets of 290.09 million KRW.
The Constitutional Court also disclosed the assets of 13 high-ranking officials. Chief Justice Yoo Nam-seok's assets were 3.122 billion KRW, an increase of 447 million KRW from the previous year, due to the sale of land in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, and changes in salary and savings.

Among them, Justice Lee Mi-seon had the highest assets at 5.299 billion KRW, followed by Justice Lee Jong-seok with 4.364 billion KRW, and Justice Lee Seok-tae with 3.911 billion KRW. The average assets of Constitutional Court officials were 2.722 billion KRW, and the average net asset increase excluding valuation changes was 254 million KRW.
