3D Printing Demonstration Support Project Announcement... Total Scale of 5.7 Billion KRW This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 25th the 2021 3D Printing Manufacturing Innovation Demonstration Support Project to support the development of mass production processes using 3D printers to strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic manufacturing industry.
This project supports consortia composed of 3D printing companies and manufacturing companies holding design authority of products to discover parts expected to create high added value and develop mass production processes optimized for manufacturing methods using 3D printers.
A total of 5.7 billion KRW will be invested in six projects, including three ongoing projects selected last year and three new projects this year. Consortia selected through this call will receive 950 million KRW annually, totaling 2.85 billion KRW over three years until 2023.
The three projects launched last year are developing 3D printer production processes for core parts in the defense industry, aerospace, and automotive sectors, and despite being the first year of the project, have achieved more than 80% of the final target in key performance indicators such as strength and precision.
Lee Seungwon, Director of the Information and Communication Industry Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “3D printing technology is a core driving force to preoccupy the next-generation parts and equipment market and enhance the competitiveness of domestic companies through convergence with the manufacturing industry. We will continue to discover cooperation cases between domestic 3D printing companies and manufacturing companies and actively support their growth into global leading manufacturers.”
