Assemblyman Shin Jeong-hoon, Hwasun Jeonbuk National University Hospital Selected for Advanced Precision Medicine Contest Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Congressman Shin Jeong-hoon (The Democratic Party, Jeonnam Naju·Hwasun) announced on the 23rd that Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital was selected for the project to establish an advanced precision medical industrialization support platform in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 2021 Bioindustry Technology Development Project new support target project competition.
The precision medical platform establishment project is a business that supports medical services that systematically manage and provide disease prediction and prevention by preemptively identifying patients' genetic and environmental factors, disease history, etc., to achieve the maximum therapeutic effect.
Congressman Shin Jeong-hoon received a proposal from Jeonnam Province in December last year to support the precision medical platform establishment project, and through persistent government persuasion and budget securing efforts during the National Assembly budget review process, he succeeded in reflecting 4.8 billion KRW for the first year in the 2021 government budget.
However, as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy promoted the project through a competitive bidding method this year, fierce competition took place between Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital and large hospitals in the metropolitan area after the application deadline on the 3rd.
Congressman Shin emphasized to Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy officials that the precision medical platform establishment project was first planned by Jeonnam Province and Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital and included in the government budget, and he persuaded and requested support from a national perspective to prevent the concentration of medical services in the metropolitan area and to resolve the super-aging and medical service gaps in the Honam region.
This precision medical platform establishment project will invest a total project cost of 15 billion KRW (10 billion KRW national funds, 600 million KRW provincial funds, 1.4 billion KRW county funds, 3 billion KRW private funds) by 2023 for R&D for precision medical diagnosis and treatment, dedicated research facilities, and equipment establishment.

Congressman Shin Jeong-hoon said, “We were able to secure national funds by being selected for the competitive project through organic cooperation with Jeonnam Province and Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital,” and added, “We will strive harder to support the leading of the advanced precision medical industry and make Hwasun the hub of Korea’s bio-medical industry based on the vaccine industry special zone.”
