[Asia Economy Reporters Song Seung-yoon and Lee Jung-yoon] Driver A, known as the 'Haeundae McLaren owner' on internet communities, expressed his intention to countersue the other driver despite issuing an apology.
In a phone interview with Asia Economy, A expressed remorse for verbally abusing the other driver B but insisted that many parts of the story were misunderstood and consistently claimed his innocence. He stated, "The other driver clearly engaged in aggressive driving first, and even though I told him several times to stop, he followed me and provoked a confrontation," adding, "Even at the police substation, the driver's wife kept hurling insults."
The incident came to light after driver B posted a message titled "Busan Haeundae Gapjil McLaren" on an online community. B claimed that on the 13th, while returning home with his children in the car, he got into an argument with A and was subjected to insulting remarks such as "Your dad is a beggar" and "You should drive a crappy car for life."
After A posted a rebuttal, B responded again with photos from CCTV footage of the incident, leading A to eventually issue an apology. In the apology, A said, "I realize that the careless words I uttered, thinking they wouldn't hurt the children, must have caused them pain," and added, "I will accept all legal penalties willingly."
However, A stated, "The apology was for my mistakes, but I will proceed with filing a lawsuit against the other driver for retaliatory driving and defamation as planned." Regarding the black box footage that could clarify the truth of the incident, he said, "I entrusted the restoration of the footage, but the attempt to recover the video from the day of the incident failed."
Regarding the harsh words, he explained, "I mentioned 'That's why you live like beggars,' but I never directly said to the children, 'Your dad is a beggar.' I was angry because they kept following me and engaging in retaliatory driving." He also said the vehicle is registered under his mother's name, not his, and threatened to sue those who posted false information online and media outlets.
