Gwangju Dong-gu Creates 'Asian Food Tourism Premium Hub' in Printing Street
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 19th that it will create an ‘Asian Food Tourism Premium Hub Space’ in the printing street of Seonam-dong to develop the Asian Food Culture Street into a global luxury market.
Gwangju Metropolitan City and Dong-gu plan to captivate the taste buds of tourists visiting the Asian Food Street through the establishment of the hub space, and develop not only food but also global tourism products to specialize it as a new cultural city landmark in Dong-gu.
This project, with a total budget of 4 billion KRW, will start basic design this year and aims for completion in 2023.
The project includes ▲ training specialized personnel for Asian food tourism ▲ establishing an Asian Food Lab ▲ promoting high-quality branding of seven representative Gwangju dishes including jumeokbap (rice balls) ▲ conducting dynamic and comparative cultural verification between Namdo cuisine and Asian food ▲ building a functional cooperative system with the National Asian Culture Complex, and promoting various convergence and complex tourism projects that combine experience, exchange, and play.
In particular, this project is linked with the Printing Street New Deal project, an urban regeneration project in Dong-gu with a budget of 30 billion KRW. Through this, it is expected to revitalize the old downtown area and create new synergy effects for urban tourism centered on the National Asian Culture Complex.
