Chungnam to Expand and Operate 6 Hydrogen Refueling Stations This Year
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province will expand and operate six hydrogen charging stations this year.
According to the province on the 19th, six new hydrogen charging stations will open in Cheonan, Asan, Boryeong, and Dangjin by September.
Among them, one station will be publicly led and installed in the parking lot in front of Cheonan City Hall, starting operation in July.
Additionally, five stations will be installed by the private sector. The installation locations include one each at Cheonan Ipjang Rest Area (upbound) and Manghyang Rest Area (downbound), one near the Hyundai Motor factory in Asan, one at Boryeong Daecheon Rest Area (upbound), and one at Dangjin SK LPG Charging Station.
These stations have either received building permits or are under construction and are scheduled to begin operation sequentially between June and September.
The province plans to expand the charging infrastructure to 22 stations by 2025 and 33 stations by 2030, including the addition of 10 publicly and privately led hydrogen charging stations this year and next.
The expansion of charging infrastructure is in response to the increase in hydrogen vehicle distribution in the region. The province has distributed a cumulative total of 464 hydrogen vehicles by the end of last year. In particular, 312 hydrogen vehicles are planned to be distributed this year.
A provincial official said, “The global transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hydrogen vehicles is progressing rapidly. Reflecting this trend, the province will focus on expanding the distribution of eco-friendly vehicles and the charging infrastructure to minimize inconvenience for drivers.”
