Did I Ever Feel This Excited on a Flower Path? ... Flower Paths Created Throughout Dongjak-gu
Creating Unique Flower Paths Suitable for Locations to Comfort Residents and Visitors Weary from Prolonged COVID-19... Petunias, Zinnias, and Portulacas Bring Spring Vibes Around Major Arterial Roads and Subway Stations
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] After a harshly cold winter, this spring has come with great difficulty. The sharp winter winds and the fatigue from COVID-19 have gradually given way to a faint breath of spring in the hearts of the residents.
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is creating various flower paths along busy streets and alleys to help residents, exhausted from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, feel the closeness of spring.
First, on the 13th, the district planted over 8,000 spring flowers of 8 varieties including pansies, violas, and marigolds on traffic islands near Sangdo Station and in front of Chung-Ang University. Additionally, 9 community centers planted about 17,000 flowers throughout the area to announce the arrival of spring to residents.
Along the district’s main roads ? ▲Yangnyeong-ro 1.2 km ▲Noryangjin-ro 2 km ▲Jangseungbaegi-ro around the district office ? totaling 3.4 km, a total of 1,820 hanging flower pots with wave petunias, gaura, four o’clocks, and carnations were installed to vividly depict the lively atmosphere.
The flower meanings of pansies, violas, and gaura symbolize memories of love and longing, representing the free world before COVID-19; carnations evoke the tranquility of Dongjak; and four o’clocks represent Dongjak as a region embodying loyalty and filial piety.
Furthermore, in high foot-traffic areas such as ▲Noryangjin Samgeori ▲Sangdo Station Intersection ▲Jangseungbaegi Station surroundings, 54 hanging flower pots on street lamp posts containing petunias, paper flowers, and bidens totaling 1,890 flowers were planted to spread floral scents to passing vehicles and pedestrians.
Until November, distinctive flower paths suited to each season and location will be created on main roads and alleys frequently used by local residents.
In the first half of the year, after expert consultation through a public design clinic project, flowers will be planted and flower beds arranged in cooperation with resident autonomy organizations and professional groups around ▲Sadang-dong Waterside Park ▲near Shinnamseong Elementary School ▲Chongsin University bus stop ▲along Siheung-daero, among other locations.
Additionally, the district plans to create a three-dimensional garden using premium flowering plants near the Hyeonchungwon intersection by the end of the year, in cooperation with Dongjak Police Station.
