Gwangju Nam-gu Provides Interpretation Services for Increasing Foreign Resident Complaints
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 18th that it will introduce five policies related to foreigner civil complaint interpretation services, including AI translation devices and an interpretation service reservation system, to provide smooth civil complaint administrative services in line with the continuous increase of foreigners and multicultural families.
Previously, on the 17th, a business agreement ceremony was held to establish foreigner interpretation services between Nam-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center.
The ceremony was organized to strengthen civil complaint response for foreigners at the civil complaint desk due to the increase in multicultural families.
According to the agreement, the two organizations will join forces to provide foreigner civil complaint interpretation services.
First, an interpretation service reservation system will be operated.
Before visiting the district office civil complaint office, if a reservation is made in advance at the Nam-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center, two proficient interpreters in Chinese and Vietnamese residing at the center will provide interpretation support.
If interpretation services in other languages are needed, multicultural instructors who can interpret those languages will provide support.
An AI translation device called ‘Genie Talk Go2’ will also be installed and operated in the civil complaint office. It supports 65 languages including English, Japanese, and Thai, and can be used free of charge without any separate usage fee.
Along with this, four public officials with excellent English and Chinese skills will be designated and operated as interpretation officials.
They usually work in their assigned departments, but when civil complaint demand arises, they will provide interpretation support via phone or by visiting the civil complaint office.

Additionally, interpretation copies of civil complaint forms in four foreign languages for foreign civil complainants will be provided to avoid inconvenience during application, and real-time interpretation services linked with specialized telephone interpretation organizations such as the Danuri Call Center operated by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the nonprofit corporation (Sa) BBB Korea will also be provided.
