5G Class Action Lawsuit Against Top 3 Mobile Carriers... "Targeting 1 Million Participants"
5G Victims Group Criticizes Inadequate 5G Base Station Deployment and Investment Delays
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Users dissatisfied with the 5G communication services of the three major mobile carriers have ultimately begun preparing a class-action lawsuit.
The Naver Cafe '5G Pigaeja Moim' (5G Victims' Group) announced on the 18th that it will start recruiting 5G users to participate in a 5G damage compensation class-action lawsuit through the joint lawsuit platform Hwanan Saramdeul (Angry People) from the 22nd. This decision comes from the judgment that the quality controversy continues due to the sluggish investment in 5G base station construction by the three carriers, leading to excessive fee payments and reaching the peak of user dissatisfaction. The recruitment target for the lawsuit group is over 1 million people.
Kim Jin-wook, attorney at law from Juwon Law Firm and legal representative, explained, "We cannot just let the contradiction continue where 5G users cover the costs required for the construction of 5G base stations, which consumes a huge budget, so we are promoting a class-action lawsuit for 5G users." The main complaints include the limited 5G coverage area pointed out since the early days of the 5G service launch, communication outages and errors occurring during the transition between 5G and 4G LTE signals, and excessive fees compared to 4G LTE plans.
The 5G Pigaeja Moim pointed out that the main cause is that the 5G base stations of the three carriers are still ridiculously insufficient nationwide. In particular, because base stations are concentrated outdoors, the utilization of indoor 5G services in places where 5G users spend a significant part of their day, such as homes, workplaces, and public transportation, is even lower. They cited data from the Ministry of Science and ICT on the status of 5G base stations, stating, "As of the end of August last year, the construction rate of 5G base stations by metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide was less than 15% on average compared to 4G LTE, which is almost a failing grade."
They also emphasized, "More than 10 million victims estimated to be using 5G services are suffering property damage such as expensive fees alone due to the intentional delay in network construction by the three carriers under the government's tacit approval," and added, "We have decided to proceed with a class-action lawsuit claiming damages for the intentional poor 5G communication quality by the government and the three mobile carriers, aiming to recruit over 1 million plaintiffs, and have begun the joint plaintiff recruitment process."
