According to the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman Yang submitted his candidate withdrawal letter that morning.
This means Chairman Yang declared his sudden resignation just five days after registering as a candidate for the presidential election on the 13th.
In a statement that day, he said, “I am withdrawing my candidacy to protect the external prestige and pride of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce, which has been corrupted by distrust among candidates and a chaotic election”.
Chairman Yang expressed his determination not to stop his activities at the Chamber by saying, “I will heed the advice of members and strive to become the Chamber that members desire.”
With Chairman Yang’s sudden resignation, the 24th Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry presidential election scheduled for the 18th is expected to be solidified as an uncontested race with the current chairman, Jeong Chang-seon, running alone.
