Former Aekyung CEO Receives Suspended Sentence in First Trial for 'Failure to Submit Humidifier Disinfectant Hearing Materials'

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The court sentenced former Aekyung Industrial CEO Lee Yoon-kyu to a suspended prison term for refusing to submit materials at the humidifier disinfectant truth investigation hearing held by the Special Investigation Commission on Social Disasters (SICSD).
On the 16th, Judge Kim Jun-hyuk of the Criminal Division 5 at the Seoul Central District Court sentenced former CEO Lee, who was tried for violating the Act on the Investigation of Social Disasters, to six months in prison with a two-year suspension. Former AK Holdings CEO Ahn Jae-seok, who was also indicted, received the same sentence.
The court stated, "The defendants refused and evaded the submission of materials requested by the SICSD and did not appear, which can be regarded as effectively obstructing the investigation." They were indicted and tried for refusing to submit materials without justifiable reasons during the SICSD hearing in 2019.

Additionally, the court fined former Aekyung Industrial CEO Mr. Ko 5 million won for failing to attend the hearing, and fined former Aekyung Industrial Executive Director Mr. Yang and former SK Chemical SkyBio Team Leader Mr. Choi 7 million won each.
