[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Kwon Chil-seung, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry) and the Small and Medium Business Corporation (Chairman Kim Hak-do, hereinafter referred to as SBC) announced on the 16th that they will support the strengthening of technology commercialization capabilities of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that possess government R&D completed technologies that have not been commercialized or patented technologies.

The SME Technology Commercialization Capability Enhancement Project has been operated by the Ministry and SBC since 2017 to expand sales through the launch of new products by SMEs and to improve technology commercialization capabilities. Based on diagnosis, it provides tailored support such as commercialization assistance, market-friendly functional improvements, and technology transfer to help successful commercialization. By diagnosing technology completeness, product marketability, and commercialization capabilities, the project classifies support types into ▲Commercialization Promising (TC) ▲Technology Enhancement Promoting Companies (MC) ▲Commercialization Technology Holding Companies (TM) and provides customized support accordingly.

Commercialization support provides up to 80 million KRW to 32 companies for commercialization planning, product performance improvement, and market marketing to ensure successful market entry by supplementing the marketability of developed technologies. Market-friendly functional improvement supports additional technology development for functional improvement and performance enhancement tailored to market demands for companies holding technologies that require technical supplementation, providing up to 100 million KRW (within 90% of project costs) to 20 companies to alleviate R&D burdens caused by COVID-19. Technology transfer supports companies possessing highly complete and marketable technologies wishing to transfer technology by assisting with registration on technology transaction platforms and technology marketing, and also promotes technology transactions and protection through technology trust.

Companies wishing to participate can apply online on the SBC website from the 17th until the 1st of next month. Each company can apply for one project, and detailed inquiries can be made through the SME Integrated Call Center or the SBC Smart Diagnostic Technology Department. Chairman Kim Hak-do stated, "Starting this year, to activate technology transactions, we will support technology value evaluation for patented technologies owned by companies to help calculate credible market values, and also support technology transaction strategy establishment through experts." He added, "We hope for active participation from SMEs and startups wishing for successful commercialization of their technologies, and SBC will actively support them."
