Sancheong-gun Selected as 'Best Excellence' in Provincial Tax Administration Comprehensive Evaluation
Secured 200 Million KRW for Sangsa Expenses, Positive Feedback on Village Tax Accountant System
Promoting Healthy Tax Payment Culture with Gift Certificates for Diligent Taxpayers
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 15th that it won the grand prize in the ‘2021 Gyeongnam Province Tax Administration Comprehensive Evaluation (2020 performance)’ and secured an institutional commendation and 200 million KRW in prize money.
This evaluation was conducted across 18 cities and counties in the province, based on various indicators such as local tax revenue expansion in 2020, arrears clearance performance, taxpayer relief systems and convenience policies, and improvements in response systems to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) including tax support, covering all aspects of local tax and non-tax revenue operations.
The county received favorable evaluations for promoting various policies aimed at creating an advanced tax administration and a culture where diligent taxpayers are rewarded.
Specifically, it received excellent evaluations in fair taxation and securing local financial resources through measures such as ▲introduction of an arrears management system ▲promotion of integrated license plate storage for vehicles with local tax and non-tax arrears ▲enforcement of subsidy payment restriction ordinances ▲public disclosure of high-amount tax delinquents’ lists ▲registration of public record information.
In particular, it was highly praised for actively promoting the village tax accountant system to provide high-quality tax services not only to existing residents but also to returnees and new settlers.
Additionally, to support small business owners who suffered difficulties due to COVID-19, property tax was temporarily reduced by up to 50% for ‘Good Landlords’.
Along with this, the county office opened and operates an integrated local and national tax civil service center, enabling various local and national tax-related tasks, which were previously only possible at tax offices, to be handled in a one-stop manner at the county office.
It is also making efforts to actively promote various systems such as the ability to file individual local income tax at the county office and the ‘Local Tax Selected Agent System,’ which provides free tax agents to low-income taxpayers.
In particular, it is leading the creation of a sound tax payment culture by, for example, drawing lots and distributing Sancheong Love Gift Certificates annually to diligent taxpayers who faithfully fulfill their tax obligations.
