Opening of 7 Sites Including Gangil, Garaeyeoul, Amsa, Sangil, Gildong, Iljasan Garden, and Healing Farm at 10 AM on the 27th... Video Training Provided for Beginner Farmers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will simultaneously open six urban gardens (Gangil, Garaeyeoul, Amsa, Sangil, Gildong, Iljasan) and the Gangdong Healing Farm, a garden designed for people with disabilities, starting at 10 a.m. on the 27th.
Due to prolonged COVID-19 restrictions limiting outdoor activities, interest in urban gardens has surged explosively this year, with over 5,000 applicants. After fierce competition, 1,400 urban farmers were selected to participate.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, no separate opening ceremony for the gardens will be held.
From the opening day on March 27, organic fertilizer and eco-friendly gardening booklets will be distributed individually at each garden for two weeks.
Additionally, special video tutorials will be provided for beginner farmers starting urban gardening for the first time.
A district official requested, “For consideration among neighbors using the gardens, please wear masks and use the provided hand sanitizers when visiting the gardens.”
Meanwhile, Gangdong-gu operates a total of 6,162 garden plots, including public urban gardens, private community gardens, and urban gardens at neighborhood community centers. The district continuously strives to provide residents with comfortable resting spaces and places for local community communication, fostering an eco-friendly environment and promoting a healthy leisure culture through gardening.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “I hope residents feel the spring energy in the urban gardens and that it helps restore their spirits tired from COVID-19,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to activate resident-led urban gardens.”
