[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City and the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group announced today that they will begin recruiting users for the Gwangju Artificial Intelligence Data Center service, which is being promoted as part of the "Creation of an AI-Centered Industrial Convergence Complex" project, starting from the 15th.

The AI Data Center service, which will be fully supported from the 15th of next month, will be composed of high-performance computing resources, AI development environments, data lakes, and various AI services (SaaS) utilizing the resources of the national AI data center.

This service not only leverages the flexible and dynamic service characteristics of the cloud but also provides comprehensive support from AI product development to commercial service verification.

The user recruitment period is until the 3rd of next month, targeting about 100 companies and institutions such as AI mid-sized, small, and venture companies, public institutions, and universities that wish to develop models and algorithms for product development and commercial services in AI-related learning, inference, and analysis fields.

Detailed information can be found on the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group’s website, and guidance is also available via phone.

Priority support will be given to AI companies located in Gwangju, companies planning to relocate their headquarters, branches, or research institutes to Gwangju, and companies participating in the AI convergence complex project.

The computing resources supported by the project group are planned to be expanded annually. This year, the supported resources include computing power of 8.85 petaflops (PF, including the latest model A100 with 5.5 petaflops) and storage capacity of 10.7 petabytes (PB), which is about 10% of the final construction goal.

In the future, the computing resource capacity will be gradually increased, and the system will be configured to utilize the latest AI accelerators and AI semiconductors. By 2024, it plans to provide computing power of 88.5 petaflops (PF) and storage capacity of 107 petabytes (PB), with a corresponding phased expansion of support scale.

Before the official service launch, Gwangju City and the project group have been conducting a pilot service from the 15th of last month to the 31st of this month for 11 companies with urgent project needs to check the service utilization environment. Through surveys and satisfaction assessments, they plan to review additional necessary development environments and services and reflect them in the official service to secure competitiveness.

The launch of this AI Data Center service will support the convergence of Gwangju’s key industries?automotive, energy, healthcare, and cultural contents?with AI technology, marking the first step toward fostering new regional industries and innovating the local economy and jobs.

Gwangju City plans to enable anyone with innovative ideas to realize their dreams through the data center service provided in Gwangju and simultaneously contribute to revitalizing the AI-centered industrial convergence ecosystem.

An Sin-geol, Director of the AI Policy Division of Gwangju City, said, “The AI Data Center service will promote the development of innovative AI products and services by domestic AI small and venture companies, public institutions, and universities,” and added, “We ask for much interest and participation from AI-related companies.”
