View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Go Minjung, a Democratic Party lawmaker serving as the spokesperson for Park Young-sun, the Democratic Party candidate for the Seoul mayoral by-election, criticized the opposition party on the 12th, asking, "What do you want to hide by refusing a special prosecutor investigation?"
In a statement released that day, Rep. Go said, "Joo Ho-young, the floor leader of the People Power Party, rejected the special prosecutor proposal, calling it a stalling tactic. Now, we must stop the political attacks based solely on suspicions and face a time for strict fact-finding," expressing this view.
She added, "Candidate Park proposed a 'special prosecutor' regarding the 'LH real estate speculation case.' Kim Tae-nyeon, acting leader of the Democratic Party, expressed willingness to accept it and responded that he would immediately consult with the opposition party," calling it "a necessary measure to sever the chain of speculation and unfairness."
She continued, "There should be no distinction between ruling and opposition parties in correcting real estate privilege and unfairness. The essence of this issue is a symbolic case that raises questions about the integrity and reliability of our society as a whole," and said, "It is a task that all of society must tackle together without any sanctuary. It is a social evil that must be eradicated."
Rep. Go also emphasized, "If there is nothing to hide, there is nothing to fear. Kim Jong-in, chairman of the People Power Party's emergency committee, and floor leader Joo must immediately accept the special prosecutor investigation into the 'LH real estate speculation case.'"
Earlier, Candidate Park formally proposed the introduction of a special prosecutor investigation related to the allegations of land speculation by employees of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) at the election campaign committee launch ceremony held at Anguk Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
In response, Acting Leader Kim said, "If a special prosecutor investigation leads to a more strengthened investigation and prosecution, and through such a process the public can trust more, I will accept the special prosecutor and immediately consult with the opposition party."
