[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) will conduct a humanities academy program starting in March at the Jungnang-gu Public Information Library, operated by the Jungnang Cultural Foundation (Chairman Pyo Jae-soon).
This program held at the Jungnang-gu Public Information Library consists of the Eastern Classics Humanities Academy and the Jungnang Connection Humanities Academy, with registration open from March 16 to the end of March.
First, the Eastern Classics Humanities Academy is designed to help participants find their center and true self amid a chaotic world through Eastern classics.
The program will run every Thursday at 7 PM from April to July. There will be a total of 16 lectures, with 4 sessions each on four topics: The Analects, The Doctrine of the Mean, Mencius, and The Great Learning.
The April topic is "The Analects," where participants will explore the values pursued by Confucius, reconstruct the era in which he lived, and reflect on all aspects of the true person he presented as an ideal character.
The lectures will be conducted by classical scholar Professor Jeon Ho-geun.
Next, the Jungnang Connection Humanities Academy will be held once a month on the last week at 7 PM from March to November. It features lectures on various topics such as economy, the 4th industrial revolution, and community villages, allowing participants to feel and enjoy humanities closely in daily life.
On March 31, Kim Sa-yeol, Chairman of the National Balanced Development Committee, will give a lecture on national balanced development and sustainable living to mark the start of the program.
Notably, both academies will be conducted simultaneously with on-site lectures and real-time YouTube live streaming, enabling residents who cannot attend in person to easily enjoy humanities lectures on their phones during their commute home.
Residents wishing to participate in the humanities academy at the Jungnang-gu Public Information Library can apply by selecting their desired program in the Reading Culture Events → Cultural Event Application section on the library’s website.
On-site lectures are limited to 50 participants, while online applications are accepted without limit.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I thank the Jungnang-gu Public Information Library for preparing various programs to make humanities easily accessible,” and added, “I hope these humanities academy programs will be a good opportunity for self-reflection and to think together about social issues.”
