Starbucks opened its first Community Store in 2014 and has been accumulating 300 KRW from every item sold to create a fund. Together with its partner, the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, it operates a youth talent development program. As of February this year, a total of over 1.2 billion KRW has been raised and donated to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.
The Starbucks Youth Talent Development Program goes beyond simple scholarship support. It runs year-round activity programs to strengthen leadership skills so that young people can realize their potential. Outstanding participants are offered opportunities such as internships at the Starbucks Support Center (headquarters) and participation in global Starbucks tours, making the program long-term and comprehensive.
This recruitment targets freshmen entering in 2021. After passing document screening and interviews, the final selected candidates will receive a scholarship of 3 million KRW per semester starting from the second semester of their first year. They will also participate in leadership seminars, lectures by notable figures, job-specific special lectures, autonomous club activities, and community service.
The application and document submission period is from the 15th of this month to April 9th. Detailed recruitment information can be found in the announcements section of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation website.
On the 10th, a ceremony was held to celebrate six Starbucks Youth Talents who graduated in February this year. Starbucks CEO Hoseob Song and Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation Chairman Jehun Lee attended the event.
Since the first class in 2015, a total of 61 Starbucks Youth Talents have been selected up to the 6th class in 2020. After producing the first two graduates in 2019, a total of 12 youth talents, including six this February, have graduated.
Meanwhile, Starbucks Community Stores are part of global social contribution activities aimed at creating positive changes in local communities. Currently, they operate only in four countries among Starbucks locations worldwide in over 80 countries: Korea, the United States, Thailand, and Indonesia.
