Seoul Metropolitan Council's Preparatory Subcommittee for the Implementation of the Autonomous Police System Begins Activities
Kang Dong-gil, Subcommittee Chair, Declares "Will Make Every Effort to Introduce a Citizen-Friendly Autonomous Police System"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Seoul Metropolitan Council's Preparatory Subcommittee for the Implementation of the Autonomous Police (hereinafter referred to as the 'Subcommittee') held its first meeting on the 10th, receiving a business report from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and hearing opinions from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, thereby commencing its activities.
Prior to the full implementation of the autonomous police system (scheduled for July 1), the Subcommittee was formed within the Seoul Metropolitan Council's Planning and Economy Committee, chaired by Assemblyman Kang Dong-gil (Vice Chairman of the Planning and Economy Committee, Seongbuk-gu District 3), and composed of Assemblymen Seo Yoon-gi, Lee Byung-do, Choi Seon, and Yeo Myung, aiming to introduce a citizen-friendly autonomous police system and institutionalize it.
At the first meeting, the Subcommittee received a business report on the progress and future plans for promoting the autonomous police system, and listened to the views of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency regarding the autonomous police ordinance currently under legislative notice (Ordinance on the Organization and Operation of the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Affairs and the Autonomous Police Committee).

Chairman Kang Dong-gil stated, “With the introduction of the autonomous police system, it is necessary to ensure thorough institutionalization so that high-quality, citizen-friendly police services can be provided without any security gaps,” and added, “Since differences in positions between the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency regarding the ordinance have been confirmed, we will seek amicable solutions through active Subcommittee activities.”
