[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 9th that it will make an early lump-sum payment of the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen starting from the 18th to support farmers and fishermen struggling due to COVID-19 and to revitalize the local economy.
The public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen is paid at 600,000 KRW per household annually to improve the quality of life of farmers and fishermen, promote sustainable development of agriculture and rural areas, and enhance public and ecological values.
The city originally planned to pay the allowance in two installments, first and second half of the year, but to revitalize the local economy depressed by COVID-19, it plans to pay the full amount of approximately 8.4 billion KRW to 14,003 eligible recipients this year in a lump sum this month using Suncheon Love Gift Certificates.
Recipients can collect the public interest allowance starting from the 18th by bringing their ID. Residents in the Dong area can visit the Suncheon branch of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation according to a five-day rotation system based on their birth year, while residents in Eup, Myeon areas, and Dosadong can collect the allowance at their local agricultural cooperative on the designated collection date for each village.
