GS Shop to Migrate All Sales Systems to Cloud by 2022
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] GS Shop announced on the 9th that it will begin migrating its online shopping mall (mobile/PC) IT system and plans to transfer all systems necessary for business activities, including broadcasting and order systems, to the cloud by 2022.
GS Shop decided to actively utilize the cloud to respond agilely to increasingly diverse and rapidly changing customer trends. The cloud refers to a method of using IT systems such as servers by accessing the internet without owning them directly.
Previously, replacing and expanding IT systems required about three months for equipment purchase and optimization work, but cloud services allow server creation, development, and testing to proceed simultaneously. As a result, ▲new services and technologies can be introduced quickly, ▲systems can be flexibly changed or expanded, and ▲human and material resources can be operated efficiently.
In particular, when merging with GS Retail in the future, integrated systems or new services can be introduced more quickly and flexibly in a cloud environment, which is expected to accelerate synergy activities.
Earlier, GS Shop verified the effectiveness of cloud migration by transferring small-scale systems to the cloud since 2017. In 2019, it strengthened cloud-related organizational capabilities through internal talent development and expert recruitment, and has continuously verified directions and prepared for the migration of major systems.
