Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) held the graduation ceremony for the 10th class Group A of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Ministry of Employment and Labor funded project, "Overseas Employment-Linked International Cruise Crew Professional Training Program," on the afternoon of the 4th at the university's Hwangryeong Hall.
The Cruise Professional Workforce Development Project Group at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (Director Jeong Yeon-guk, hereafter Cruise Project Group) was selected in 2018 as the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' "2nd Cruise Professional Workforce Development Institution" and has been operating an international cruise professional workforce training course with a total project budget of over 3.6 billion KRW for five years.
The graduation ceremony held on the 4th was attended by Director Jeong Yeon-guk, Industry-Academia Cooperation Department Head Jo Min-jun, the Cruise Project Group faculty, and about 20 trainees.
The event proceeded with a report on the workforce development project results, an awards ceremony for outstanding trainees, and the issuance of certificates of completion.
The 10th class Group A training was conducted as a practical, hands-on program totaling 480 hours from June 1, 2020, to February 24, 2021.
All 19 trainees successfully completed the program. Among them, trainees Seo Geon-young, Baek Mi-hyun, and Park Ji-hyun, who demonstrated excellent academic performance and exemplary diligence during the training, received the President’s Award, Industry-Academia Cooperation Director’s Award, and Project Director’s Award, respectively.
Through this project, 16 trainees from the 10th class Group A were accepted by renowned overseas cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean Cruise and Star Cruises, achieving an employment acceptance rate of 84%.
Director Jeong Yeon-guk said, “I express my gratitude to all trainees who dedicated themselves to the program for nine months despite the severe downturn in the global tourism industry, including cruises, due to COVID-19. I hope that COVID-19 will soon be eradicated so that all successful candidates can board cruise ships as soon as possible. We will continue to strengthen our position as Korea’s premier cruise crew employment academy.”
The Cruise Project Group is recruiting trainees to participate in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ 12th class Group A International Cruise Crew Professional Training Program until March 31.
