Useful Information and Handy Tips on School Life and Parent Roles from an Active Teacher... Available for All Parents on Yangcheon-gu Office YouTube Throughout March
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] “Children who have just entered elementary school also need toilet training. I personally taught my child how to fold toilet paper with chocolate jam on it so that their hands wouldn’t get dirty, and since they initially had difficulty carrying the school lunch tray, I practiced placing rice and soup bowls on the tray at home to help them get used to carrying it.”
Oh Eun-gang, CEO of the education specialist organization Cremong, began sharing detailed parenting know-how she acquired through trial and error, as well as small tips on choosing indoor shoes and erasers suitable for children entering elementary school this year.
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) released a special lecture video for parents of children entering elementary and middle school this year on the district’s YouTube channel to help resolve questions about “Our Child’s Changing School Life.”
Every year at the start of the new semester, the district has held special lectures for new elementary and middle school parents that “scratch the itch” for new parents, receiving positive feedback from parents.
This year, to comply with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, the lectures were produced as videos so that any parent who wishes can watch them online.
The “Amazing School Life, Wise Parenting Life” special lecture series for new elementary and middle school parents consists of three episodes, each about 20 minutes long, available for anyone to watch on the Yangcheon-gu Office YouTube channel.
In the videos, education experts and current teachers provide practical and detailed explanations about parents’ roles in preparing as much as they know, covering elementary school subject curricula, new semester preparation tips, the free semester system, and overall middle school life.
In particular, they reveal know-how to actively respond to and prepare for the changed educational environment, including online classes for non-face-to-face education, which has become the new standard since last year, and self-directed learning methods, which are expected to be of great help to parents.
