Changwon City Fully Launches Electric Machinery Convergence Research Complex in Small Giant Special Zone
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City in Gyeongnam is accelerating the designation of an additional Small Giant R&D Special Zone.
Changwon City announced on the 6th that it will lift the development restriction zone around Bulmosan-dong, Seongsan-gu, where the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute is located, and establish an electromechanical convergence complex in the Small Giant R&D Special Zone by 2025.
The government designated the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute and the 650,000㎡ expansion area of Changwon National Industrial Complex as a Small Giant Special Zone in 2019.
The government and Changwon City are in the process of expanding the Small Giant Special Zone by adding 173,000㎡ around Bulmosan Reservoir in Bulmosan-dong near the Electrotechnology Research Institute (including 138,000㎡ of development restriction zone).
Changwon City stated that if the government lifts the development restriction zone and additionally designates 173,000㎡ as a Small Giant Special Zone, it will invest 135.8 billion KRW to establish an electromechanical convergence complex by 2025.
Centered on the Electrotechnology Research Institute, corporate research centers, dormitories, and neighborhood living facilities will be established, creating a small but self-sufficient Small Giant Special Zone hinterland complex.
The Changwon Small Giant Special Zone will fuse the intelligent electrical technology possessed by the Electrotechnology Research Institute with the machinery industry of the Changwon National Industrial Complex to research and develop smart power systems, intelligent electromechanical devices, and advanced electrical materials and components.
