The 119 Hero Award is given to civilians who risk their lives to protect others' lives or property at various disaster scenes such as fires or accidents. Since 2018, the Fire Agency has officially presented this award, and 24 people have received it to date.
In 2019, in Jeju, the award was given to a citizen who carried a disabled person trapped in smoke from a fire, and in 2020, in Goheung, it was awarded to citizens who rescued 40 stranded residents using a fishing boat in the Gurye flood area.
Through this agreement, eBay Korea will support the promotion of the Hero Award by providing prize money to recipients designated by the Fire Agency. The Fire Agency will support fire safety education for eBay Korea employees.
Lee Heung-gyo, Deputy Director of the Fire Agency, said, "Through eBay Korea's support for the 119 Hero Award, we will expand the recognition of civilian heroes who risked their lives and also enhance the sense of community and safety awareness among the public."
Seomin-seok, Vice President of eBay Korea's Communications Division, said, "We are pleased to take a step further from supporting our heroic firefighters over the past three years to extending support to civilian heroes. We will also strive to inform the 30 million Gmarket-Auction members about the activities of these civilian heroes and spread a sense of community."
