Japan to Partially Lift COVID-19 State of Emergency Starting Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The Japanese government plans to lift the state of emergency declared in some prefectures due to COVID-19.
According to foreign media on the 28th, 1,214 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed nationwide in Japan the previous day. Recently, the daily number of confirmed cases in Japan has been around 1,000, significantly reduced compared to the peak of around 7,000 cases last month.
Accordingly, the Japanese government plans to lift the state of emergency from 0:00 on the 1st of next month in 6 out of the 10 prefectures where the emergency was declared. The state of emergency in Japan mainly involves refraining from going out, shortening restaurant business hours, and expanding telework.
However, the areas where the emergency will be lifted are limited to Osaka-fu, Kyoto-fu, Hyogo-ken, Fukuoka-ken, Gifu-ken, and Aichi-ken. The state of emergency declared in the four metropolitan prefectures of Tokyo-to, Saitama, Kanagawa, and Chiba-ken will be maintained for the time being.
