Trump's Eldest Son Investigated by Prosecutors for Misuse of 2017 Presidential Inauguration Funds
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of former U.S. President Donald Trump, was summoned as a witness and questioned regarding allegations of misappropriation of funds related to former President Trump's inauguration, CNN reported on the 25th (local time).
CNN cited court documents stating that Karl Racine, the Attorney General of Washington DC, called Trump Jr. in for questioning on the 11th.
The Washington DC prosecutors are investigating suspicions that funds from the inauguration committee around January 2017 were improperly funneled to the Trump family's business, the Trump Organization. According to prosecutors, the Trump Organization booked rooms at the Madison Hotel in Washington DC during the inauguration period for about $49,000 (approximately 50 million KRW) and sent the invoice to the inauguration committee.
CNN reported that as the investigation into former President Trump expanded to real estate owned by the Trump family, eldest son Donald Trump Jr. and second son Eric Trump have rapidly become the focus of prosecutors' attention.
Separately from the Washington DC prosecutors, the Manhattan prosecutors in New York are also examining Trump family properties such as the New York retreat known as "Seven Springs," Trump Tower in Manhattan, and 40 Wall Street, all of which involve management by Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. In connection with this, Eric and Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of former President Trump, were reportedly summoned for questioning by prosecutors at the end of last year.
