Seongnam City to Support 150 Million KRW for Official Development Assistance This Year
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will invest 150 million won this year to help developing countries exposed to poverty and poor environments.
To this end, Seongnam City is accepting proposals for Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects from non-profit private organizations, corporations, universities, and research institutions until the 3rd of next month.
Official Development Assistance targets developing countries in need of humanitarian aid. The projects include human resource development in cultural, educational, and economic cooperation fields, social development infrastructure establishment, and facility construction and repair.
The city seeks long-term projects that can help fundamentally solve poverty in target overseas cities by utilizing the applying organizations' expertise, experience, capabilities, and human and material networks in each field.
The city will review the efficiency and effectiveness of project implementation, including COVID-19 response measures, and select about five executing organizations. Selected organizations will receive ODA project funds of around 30 million won each, with amounts varying.
In cooperation with the selected organizations, the city will carry out the ODA projects from April to November.

Last year, the city supported six project-executing organizations with 150 million won and promoted six projects, including "Income Increase and Living Environment Improvement Project for the Poor in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia" and "Creating Self-Reliant Villages Based on Local Schools in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan."
