Yongin Mayor Baek Goon-gi Visits 'Duwon Meditech' for Low Dead Space Syringes
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] On the 22nd, Baek Gun-gi, mayor of Yongin City, visited Doowon Meditech Co., Ltd. in Pogok-eup, Cheoin-gu, the manufacturer of low dead space (LDS) syringes for COVID-19 vaccination, to encourage CEO Seo Hyo-seok and employees and to tour the facility.
Doowon Meditech was selected by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency as a supplier of syringes for COVID-19 vaccination and will supply 27.5 million syringes by the end of July.
On that day, after touring the facility, Mayor Baek held a meeting with executives and employees to listen to corporate difficulties and discuss necessary measures to ensure smooth production.
At the meeting, CEO Seo Hyo-seok said, "We are pleased to be able to efficiently vaccinate more citizens with low dead space syringes," and promised, "We will do our best to produce syringes quickly and supply them without any disruption."
Mayor Baek said, "I am very pleased that a local company’s vaccine syringes made with excellent technology can contribute to forming herd immunity against COVID-19 among the people," and emphasized, "I am grateful that Doowon Meditech is raising the status of the corporate city, and the city will spare no support within its capacity."
Meanwhile, using the syringes produced by this company minimizes the amount left in the syringe after vaccination, allowing one vial of vaccine, which was previously used to vaccinate five people with a general syringe, to vaccinate up to six people.
Doowon Meditech previously received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for low dead space syringes in 2003. After establishing a production plant in Gimje, Jeonbuk in 2006, it built automated facilities capable of mass production from 2 million to over 5 million units per month in 2020.
