Fair Trade Commission appoints lawyer Kim Dong-a as non-standing commissioner
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Fair Trade Commission newly appointed attorney Kim Donga as a non-standing commissioner on the 22nd.
This appointment is a follow-up measure following the resignation of former non-standing commissioner Jeong Jaehun. Non-standing commissioners are appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the Chairperson of the Fair Trade Commission, and their term is three years.
Newly appointed non-standing commissioner Kim Donga passed the 34th Judicial Examination and served as a judge for about 21 years, including positions as a judge at the Seoul High Court, a judicial research officer at the Supreme Court, and a presiding judge at the Seoul Central District Court. Currently, he works as an attorney at the law firm Jipyung and as an adjunct professor at Seoul National University School of Law.
The Fair Trade Commission explained that Commissioner Kim mainly worked in courts specializing in finance and economic cases, directly handling various civil and criminal lawsuits related to economic issues, and thus possesses the expertise suitable for a quasi-judicial institution commissioner of the Fair Trade Commission in both theoretical and practical aspects.

A Fair Trade Commission official stated, "Commissioner Kim has extensive experience directly handling various cases related to fair trade, including criminal cases of violations of the Fair Trade Act, various cartel cases, and damages claims related to bid rigging, while working at various courts," and added, "He is expected to greatly contribute to enhancing the expertise of the Fair Trade Commission's decisions in both substantive and procedural aspects in the future."
