[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 19th, the Blue House stated that the national petition requesting the impeachment of the first trial panel for Professor Jeong Gyeong-sim falls under the exclusive authority of the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court.
A Blue House official said in response to the national petition on the same day, "'Impeachment of judges' is a matter where the National Assembly passes an impeachment proposal and the Constitutional Court adjudicates according to the Constitution, so it falls under the exclusive authority of the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court, making it difficult to respond."
This petition requests the initiation of an impeachment proposal against the three judges of Professor Jeong's first trial panel and includes the legislative enactment of a jury system and the legislative enactment of a Supreme Court justice election system. The petition was supported by 459,416 citizens.
