Seongdong-gu 'Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District Customer Center' Opens
Following the Majang Livestock Market Customer Center, sequential openings of Yongdap and Geumnam Markets are planned in the first half of the year... Equipped with customer lounges, training rooms, and programs for resident participation and merchants
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (District Mayor Jeong Wono) will complete the construction of the Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District Customer Center by the end of this month and begin full-scale operation.
To strengthen the self-sustainability and competitiveness of local shopping districts facing great difficulties such as economic recession and decreased customers due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the district promoted the construction of the Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District Customer Center last year through the Seoul Metropolitan Government's traditional market facility modernization project.
The Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District Customer Center is the second of its kind following the Majang Livestock Market Customer Center established in 2017.
Opened in 2008, the Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District is located near Wangsimni Station, surrounded by densely populated residential areas such as officetels, and has a Wangsimni Traveler’s Street, making it a place with a large floating population.
Accordingly, in August last year, the district purchased part of the building at 276 Doseondong and carried out remodeling work to create a customer center that includes convenience facilities and community spaces, making it easy for shopping district visitors and local residents to use.
The customer center has a total floor area of 220.94㎡ and is equipped with convenience facilities including an education room, rest area, multipurpose room, and merchant office, allowing customers visiting the Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District to stop by and take a short rest.
In addition, it plans to actively use the center as an open community space by offering resident participation programs related to daily life such as hobby classes and service education for merchants.
In the first half of this year, following the Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District, centers will be sequentially established in Yongdap Shopping Market and Geumnam Market to revitalize traditional markets and shopping districts.

Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I hope the customer center will serve as an opportunity for residents and merchants to coexist and develop together and breathe new life into traditional markets and shopping districts that have been stagnant due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to make efforts to revitalize traditional markets.”
