Nowon-gu, Donation Drive Melting Away COVID-19 and Cold Wave... Exceeding Fundraising Goal for a 'Warm Winter'
'2021 Warm Winter Campaign' Raises Over 2.685 Billion Won, Exceeding Initial Goal of 2.3 Billion... Donations Increase by Over 500 Million Won Annually Since 7th Local Government Term... Contributions Continue from Basic Livelihood Recipients, Anonymous Donors, and District Office Officials
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it has raised more than 2.6 billion KRW, exceeding the fundraising target for the '2021 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign.'
Since the campaign launch ceremony in November last year, the district raised a total of 2.68592 billion KRW by the 15th of this month, including 865.01 million KRW in cash donations and 1.82091 billion KRW in goods.
This amount exceeds the original target of 2.3 billion KRW by more than 300 million KRW, surpassing the fundraising goal by 16.8%.
Since the 7th local government administration, the fundraising amount has increased by more than 500 million KRW annually. ▲ 2018 Warm Winter Campaign raised about 1.09 billion KRW ▲ 2019 Warm Winter Campaign about 1.591 billion KRW ▲ 2020 Warm Winter Campaign 2.17 billion KRW, and this year, about 2.68 billion KRW, marking the highest amount ever raised.
This steady support from individuals, companies, and religious organizations who want to help neighbors in need despite the ongoing economic downturn caused by COVID-19 contributed to this achievement.
Additionally, this year, donations included not only daily necessities such as rice and kimchi but also essential COVID-19 prevention items like masks and hand sanitizers, greatly aiding infection prevention among vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people with disabilities.
Heartwarming donation stories have also been shared. On the 2nd, a disabled person living on basic livelihood security benefits, Mr. Lee ○○, visited the Wolgye 2-dong Community Service Center.
Mr. Lee said, “I have been living on taxes paid by the people, so I feel grateful,” and added, “I want to help small business owners struggling during COVID-19,” donating 1 million KRW saved over several years for living expenses.
In December last year, the Gongneung 2-dong Community Service Center received a phone call. The donor did not disclose personal information but sent 100 boxes of 3kg kimchi (worth about 2.58 million KRW) by courier, asking that it be used to help neighbors in need.
This anonymous donor contacted again in February this year, sending another 100 boxes of 3kg kimchi to provide some support to low-income families during the Lunar New Year holiday, adding warmth to the community.
Nowon-gu office employees also actively participated in the donation campaign. They raised 38.65 million KRW, more than last year, and employees from the Taxation Departments 1 and 2 donated 10 million KRW from their reward money received for excellent performance in last year's comprehensive tax collection evaluation, leading the spread of a donation culture.
The collected donations and goods will be delivered to neighbors in need within the district, including basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, elderly living alone, and households with disabilities, as well as social welfare facilities.
