Ryu Gyeonggi, Mayor of Jungnang District, Achieves 94.7% Childcare Support Service Connection Rate, Ranks First in Seoul
Jungnang District Achieves Highest Childcare Support Service Connection Rate in Seoul
Far Surpassing City (85.9%) and National (89.5%) Averages
Second Place in 2020 Seoul Childcare Service Provider Evaluation
Continuous Success Proves Jungnang Is an Excellent Place for Raising Children
[Asia Economy, reporter Park Jongil] Jungnang District (District Mayor Ryu Gyeonggi) achieved a 94.7% connection rate for the Childcare Support Service in 2020, ranking first among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
This figure far surpasses both the Seoul average (85.9%) and the national average (89.5%), marking one of the highest connection rates nationwide.
The Childcare Support Service is a program in which a childcare provider visits the home of a family experiencing a childcare gap to offer one-on-one care for children under the age of 12.
This service is highly popular as it helps reduce the parenting burden for parents and greatly assists those trying to balance both childcare and work. Currently, 122 childcare providers are visiting homes in Jungnang District to deliver these services.
The connection rate for the service increases when more applicants in need of childcare are matched with a provider at their desired time. The district explained that it has raised its connection rate by making efforts to improve service matching, such as notifying applicants in advance about waiting times to prevent mid-service cancellations.
The district offers both “Hourly Childcare Support Service” and “Full-Day Infant Childcare Support Service.” The Hourly Childcare Service supports children under 12 with activities such as play, preparing meals and snacks, and accompanying them to and from school or daycare. The Full-Day Infant Childcare Service supports infants under 36 months (excluding household chores) with tasks such as feeding baby food, sterilizing bottles, changing diapers, and bathing.
Additionally, childcare providers report their observations of the children to parents via phone calls or text messages, allowing guardians to use the service with greater peace of mind.
The Childcare Support Service is available for children aged 3 months to 12 years, and each session must be used for at least two hours. The standard hourly fee is 10,040 won for the general type, and up to 90% of the cost is subsidized depending on income level.
Families wishing to apply should visit their local community center to submit an application, receive notification of government subsidy eligibility, and then register as a member on the Childcare Support Service website to use the service.

Ryu Gyeonggi, Mayor of Jungnang District, said, “We will continue to make every effort to ensure that families can receive childcare services at their desired times,” adding, “We will build a detailed, customized care system to make Jungnang a great place to raise children.”
