Yoon Hee-sook: "Small Business Owners Should Not Be Used as Election Strategy Targets"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 14th, Yoon Hee-sook, a member of the People Power Party, proposed, "Let's not use small business owners on the brink as targets for election strategies and start interest-free loans immediately."
On the same day, Yoon criticized on Facebook, "It seems that the COVID disaster relief payments have now openly become a by-election strategy," adding, "There is widespread cynicism about the ruling party's claim to provide both universal and selective payments without passing March, with comments like 'Why not just pay on April 6, the day before the election?'"
She said, "While some industries have expanded online economies and even paid bonuses to all employees, face-to-face service industries are facing a tsunami of closures," and questioned, "Is it right to borrow national debt to provide consolation money to all citizens despite the clear division between winners and victims being an unprecedented feature of this COVID disaster?"
She then made a proposal to the government and ruling party. Yoon stated, "If small business owners simply provide proof of decreased sales, let's immediately offer loans to all who want them, even this week," and added, "Let's provide loans first so they can endure until the situation stabilizes with vaccines, and later have the government partially cover the repayments."
