Tension Rises as Ebola Deaths Reported in Congo
[Asia Economy International Desk Reporter] Four deaths due to Ebola virus infection have occurred in Guinea, West Africa, for the first time in five years, according to foreign media including AFP on the 13th (local time).
Sakoba Keita, head of the National Health Security Agency, told local media that a nurse contracted the disease at the end of January and was buried on February 1. Keita said, "Among those who participated in the burial, eight showed symptoms of Ebola infection such as diarrhea, vomiting, and bleeding," adding, "Three of them have died, and the remaining four are hospitalized."
The four deaths occurred in the Nz?r?kor? region in southeastern Guinea.
Keita also reported that one patient escaped from the hospital but was later found and readmitted to a hospital in the capital, Conakry.
Ebola is a pathogen that can be transmitted through a small amount of bodily fluids, causing high fever accompanied by cold-like symptoms and internal organ bleeding, leading to death in a short period of time.
Separately from Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa recently reported Ebola virus deaths, prompting authorities to be on high alert for a possible 12th outbreak. Last year, 130 people were infected in Congo, with 55 deaths among them.
