According to the authorities of the High-tech Industrial Development Zone in Benxi City, Liaoning Province, the explosion occurred around 10:50 a.m. local time on the 8th during a pre-production test at the raw material workshop of Liaoning Kangyuan Huawei Pharmaceutical Company.

Five workers in the workshop were injured in the accident, and two of them who sustained serious injuries eventually died. Separately, 16 factory employees received hospital treatment due to injuries sustained during the explosion. Authorities are investigating the detailed cause of the accident.
