Nexon Rides the 'Wind' and 'Rush'... First in the Industry to Surpass 3 Trillion Won in Sales (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Nexon has become the first in the industry to enter the 3 trillion KRW revenue era.
First Ever to Surpass 3 Trillion KRW in Revenue
On the 9th, Nexon announced that it recorded 3.1306 trillion KRW in revenue and 1.1907 trillion KRW in operating profit last year. Both revenue and operating profit were the highest ever, growing 18% year-on-year respectively.
Last year's fourth-quarter revenue also set a quarterly record. Fourth-quarter revenue was 709.2 billion KRW, and operating profit was 166.5 billion KRW. These figures represent increases of 35% and 245% year-on-year, respectively.
Nexon's strong performance was driven by growth in mobile games. Last year, Nexon's mobile revenue surpassed 1 trillion KRW, recording 1.0371 trillion KRW, a 60% increase compared to the previous year.
Long-term hit intellectual properties (IPs) such as 'V4', as well as last year's releases including 'Baram-ui Nara: Yeon', 'FIFA Mobile', and 'KartRider Rush Plus' contributed to the strong performance.
'Baram-ui Nara: Yeon' has consistently maintained a top position since its release in July last year, ranking second in Google Play's highest revenue. 'KartRider Rush Plus' also continued its success, reaching 20 million users.
The resurgence of 'MapleStory M', released in 2016, is also noteworthy. Nexon succeeded in a comeback on the two major app markets after a large-scale update in November last year.
The performance of major PC games also contributed to the strong results. MapleStory, which celebrated its 17th anniversary last year, led revenue growth globally including in Korea. In the Korean region, it grew by 98%, while in North America and Europe, and Asia and South America, it showed growth rates of 134% and 85%, respectively. 'FIFA Online 4' also contributed to revenue growth by introducing various content through a large-scale update.
Nexon's domestic performance was also remarkable. Nexon's revenue generated in the Korean region surpassed 1 trillion KRW for the first time. Revenue grew 84% year-on-year, with mobile increasing by 164% and PC online by 54%.
"Active Investment in Talent... Achieving a Super-Gap Performance"
Nexon plans to take a step closer to its goal of a 'super-gap'. Nexon will increase the starting salary for new developers to 50 million KRW and invest in talent acquisition.
To accelerate the recruitment of outstanding talent, Nexon will resume new graduate and experienced recruitment, which had been suspended since 2018, within the first half of the year, and continue investing in various fields such as new development projects, artificial intelligence (AI) research, and business development.
